In the Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4, the introduction of the Mercenary system adds a new layer of strategy, especially for solo players. Mercenaries provide essential assistance and protection during your adventures in Sanctuary, enhancing gameplay by allowing players to tackle challenges more effectively.
This article details how Mercenary system works in Vessel of Hatred DLC, along with the function of each Mercenary to help you choose the appropriate one who achieve a fabulous combination with you.
How the Mercenary System Works
The Mercenary system becomes available as you progress through the Vessel of Hatred campaign. Your first encounter with a Mercenary occurs with Raheir, who guides you to the Mercenary Den, the hub for all Mercenaries. Completing specific quests unlocks additional Mercenaries, allowing for customization to fit your play style.
It's advisable to have at least one Mercenary before diving into the storyline, as this prevents the loss of valuable Mercenary experience (Rapport) during your journey. After completing the main campaign, collecting all Mercenaries becomes crucial for post-campaign quests.
The Mercenaries
There are four Mercenaries available, each with unique abilities and roles:
1. Raheir: The first Mercenary you meet, Raheir acts as a tank, capable of interrupting attacks and taunting enemies. He also serves as the Den's blacksmith, helping with gear repairs.
2. Aldkin: Hired by completing the "A Nameless Mystery" quest, Aldkin wields shadow and fire magic, providing powerful buffs while also posing risks. His transformation into demons can deal massive damage, and he can enhance gear with Legendary Aspects.
3. Varyana: Available after completing the "Slayer's Retribution" quest, Varyana is a fierce martial warrior equipped with dual axes or a two-handed mace. Her Massacre skill offers a movement speed buff, allowing for swift boss engagements.
4. Subo: Recruited through the "A Feather on the Scale" quest, Subo is a rogue specializing in long-range attacks. His skills include marking enemies and valuable items, laying traps, and providing continuous firepower.
Gameplay Impact
The Mercenary system transforms the gameplay experience, particularly for solo players. You can assign a Mercenary as a bodyguard, enhancing your survival while exploring or battling formidable foes. Reinforcements can also be hired to support you during critical moments, allowing for dynamic strategies in combat.
As you delve deeper into the Vessel of Hatred, leveraging the abilities and synergies of each Mercenary will be key to mastering the challenges that await in Sanctuary. Collecting and customizing your Mercenaries not only enriches your gameplay but also ensures that you're well-prepared for whatever horrors lie ahead.
