How to Anoint Your Items in Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 has launched for some time, it brings a lot of improved and engaging contents, Anointing system is one of them. Improved Anointing system allows players to enhance their builds by gaining the effects of Notable Passive Skills without needing to connect to them in the Passive Skill Tree.

 

While not mandatory, Anointing can significantly improve your build by boosting damage, defenses, or utility. Here's everything you need to know about how to Anoint your items, obtain Distilled Emotions, and choose the best Anoints for your character.  

 

 

What Is Anointing?

Anointing is a mechanic that lets you add powerful bonuses to Amulets and Waystones. By using specific currency called Distilled Emotions, you can link a Notable Passive Skill from the Passive Skill Tree directly to your gear. This allows you to strategically boost your character's capabilities without requiring pathing in the tree.  

 

Unlike Path of Exile's original game, only Amulets and Waystones can be Anointed in Path of Exile 2. The process has been streamlined but remains familiar, ensuring both new and returning players can use it effectively.  

 

What Are Distilled Emotions?

Distilled Emotions are the currency required for Anointing. They replace the Blight Oils from the original Path of Exile and combine their functionality with Delirium Orbs. These unique items are used to unlock Notable Passive Skills on Amulets or enhance Waystones for Maps. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions:  

 

- Distilled Despair  

- Distilled Disgust  

- Distilled Envy  

- Distilled Fear  

- Distilled Greed  

- Distilled Ire  

- Distilled Suffering  

- Distilled Paranoia  

- Distilled Isolation  

- Distilled Guilt  

 

How to Obtain Distilled Emotions

There are several ways to farm Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2. These methods range from early-game activities to endgame challenges. Here are the most effective ways to collect them:  

 

1. Delirium Maps

The primary way to farm Distilled Emotions is by completing Maps with the Delirium mechanic. In these Maps, you'll encounter Delirium Fog, which covers the area and spawns powerful monsters. Defeating these enemies before the Fog dissipates will reward you with various loot, including Distilled Emotions.  

 

2. Simulacrum

Simulacrum is an endgame activity where players face waves of increasingly difficult monsters. Completing these waves can yield rare rewards, including Distilled Emotions. This method is ideal for players with strong builds capable of handling high-intensity combat.  

 

3. Reforging Bench

The Reforging Bench allows you to combine three Distilled Emotions of the same type to create a higher-tier version. This is particularly helpful in Solo Self-Found (SSF) leagues, where trading is not an option.  

 

4. Trade Website or Currency Exchange

For players in trade leagues, purchasing Distilled Emotions from the trade website is the easiest option. This saves time and effort, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your build. If you don't have enough POE 2 currency, buying some can be a good option. 

 

How to Anoint Items

Anointing Amulets 

To Anoint an Amulet, follow these steps:  

1. Right-click on any Distilled Emotion to open the Instilling Window.  

2. Place your Amulet in the top slot of the window.  

3. Insert three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots.  

4. Confirm the Anointing process to apply the chosen Notable Passive Skill to your Amulet.  

 

You can check which Distilled Emotions are required for a specific Notable Passive Skill by hovering over the skill in the Passive Skill Tree and pressing Alt (or R3 on a controller). If you wish to change your Anoint, simply repeat the process to overwrite the previous one.  

 

Note: At present, you cannot Anoint Corrupted or Mirrored Amulets in Path of Exile 2.  

 

Anointing Waystones 

Waystones can also be Anointed using Distilled Emotions. This process adds Delirium effects to Maps, increasing their difficulty while providing valuable rewards. For example, Anointing a Waystone can add more monsters, increase Simulacrum Splinter drops, or improve loot rarity.  

 

To Anoint a Waystone:  

1. Right-click on a Distilled Emotion to open the Instilling Window.  

2. Place your Waystone in the slot, along with three Distilled Emotions.  

3. Confirm the process to finalize your Waystone's effects.  

 

Keep in mind that Anointing a Waystone significantly increases Map difficulty. Only attempt this if your build is capable of handling challenging endgame content.  

 

Best Anoints for Your Build

Choosing the right Anoint depends on your build's needs, but some Notable Passive Skills are universally useful across multiple setups. Here are a few examples:  

 

- Stormcharged: Increases Elemental Damage and Critical Strike Chance after landing a Critical Hit. Ideal for elemental builds, especially Stormweaver.  

- Doomsayer: Grants increased Area of Effect (AOE) and damage for Herald Skills, making it a solid choice for Herald-based builds.  

- Parrying Motion: Provides increased Block Chance and Movement Speed, perfect for defensive setups.  

- Spreading Shocks: Causes your Shocks to spread to nearby enemies, excellent for builds relying on Shock effects.  

- Endless Blizzard: Grants +1 level to all Cold Skills, making it a must-have for Frost-based builds.  

 

Always refer to your Passive Skill Tree and hover over Notable Passive Skills to see which Distilled Emotions are needed for a specific Anoint. This ensures your build gains the maximum benefit.
