Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, is an optional Legend boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. He resides in Midra's Manse, which is located in Abyssal Woods. This eerie and dark place is covered with fog and is the only place that the Spectral Steed refuses to come out as it is frightened.
The area is not that big, but caution is advised as the enemies in this area can one-shot the player if they are seen. This guide includes a step-by-step walkthrough on how to get to Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame.
How to Find Midra
To reach Midra's Manse Elden Ring, players must first make their way to Abyssal Woods. This area can be accessed through a hidden area in the Shadow Keep leading to the Darklight Catacombs, which exits into the Abyssal Woods. Once you reach Abyssal Woods, you cannot use Torrent, so get ready to travel through this area on foot. After interacting with the first Site of Grace, head south and deal with the Rats on your way to the Abyssal Woods Site of Grace.
The next step will be to travel west, where the area becomes dangerous. Along this path, you will encounter an Aging Untouchable enemy. This enemy can spot you from a distance, teleport to you, and grab you, thus killing your character. There are numerous bushes around the area that you can use to crouch and move.
The stealth option is the safest, but if you feel courageous, you can deal with these enemies by parrying their grab at the right moment.
Soon, you will reach the Divided Fall Site of Grace, after which you will have to travel south, dealing with more dangerous enemies and finally reaching the gate to Midra's Manse.
Preparation for Battle
Before you engage in this battle, players need to make full preparation. Midra's attacks are notorious for inflicting Madness build-up, making it essential for players to equip Talismans that enhance focus, such as the Clarifying Horn Charm and Mottled Necklace +2. Additionally, the Flamedrake +3 Talisman is highly recommended to mitigate the Fire damage dealt by many of Midra's melee and Flame of Frenzy attacks. Armor that offers substantial resistance to Fire can further enhance survivability in this intense battle.
Midra is particularly vulnerable to Bleed and Frostbite, making dual Katanas a viable strategy. However, players should be cautious with poison and scarlet rot, as Midra possesses strong resistances against these effects. If you're using a Faith or Madness build, remember that while Midra is immune to Madness, Incantations dealing Lightning or Holy damage can still deliver substantial hits.
The Fight: Phase One
As the battle commences, players will face Midra in his human form, characterized by relatively weaker attacks. However, caution is warranted, especially against his grab attack, which can quickly escalate Madness build-up. During this phase, players cannot summon Spirit Ashes, necessitating a more careful approach.
Midra's attack patterns in this phase include spreading his arms to unleash Flame of Frenzy projectiles, horizontal attacks, and a series of melee combos. The key to surviving these encounters lies in precise dodging, particularly rolling sideways to evade linear attacks and backwards to avoid thrusts. Observing Midra's movements closely will reveal telltale signs of his sword attacks, allowing players to anticipate and evade devastating hits effectively.
Transition to Phase Two
Once Midra's health dips below 60 percent, he transforms into the Lord of Frenzied Flame, significantly ramping up the intensity of the fight. This phase begins with a dramatic aerial assault, where Midra slams his flaming head into the ground, creating a massive explosion. Players should maintain a safe distance and time their jumps to avoid damage.
In this phase, Midra reuses many attacks from the first phase while introducing new ones, such as a fiery sword strike that can catch players off guard. Rolling back to avoid his sword's flame wave becomes essential, and maintaining a keen eye on his movements is crucial. The key to victory lies in patience; dodging his relentless onslaught until his attacks normalize allows players to capitalize on openings to deliver damage.
Rewarding Victory
Defeating Midra yields not only the coveted Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame but also a substantial 410,000 Elden Ring runes. Players can exchange this remembrance with Enia at the Roundtable Hold for two unique rewards: the Greatsword of Damnation and Midra's Flame of Frenzy.
The Greatsword of Damnation is particularly enticing, scaling with Strength, Dexterity, and Faith, while also offering Holy damage. Its unique Ash of War, Golden Crux, enables players to leap and create a devastating area-of-effect attack with erupting spikes. On the other hand, Midra's Flame of Frenzy provides a potent incantation, causing Madness build-up over time, making it a valuable asset in any build.
Conclusion
In summary, Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame stands as a testament to the intricacies of boss design within Elden Ring. This encounter not only challenges players' skill and strategy but also rewards them richly for their perseverance. As players delve into the dark corners of the Abyss, they are met with thrilling combat and profound lore, making Midra an unforgettable part of their journey through the Land of Shadow.
