D2R: Best Guide for Class Choice And Power Leveling

Mar-07-2025

Diablo 2 Resurrected Season 10 launches tomorrow! Whether you are an experienced ladder climber or a green hand installing the game for the first time, get ready for new adventures! Today, MMOSO brings you everything about essential class selection and power leveling!

Class Recommendations

For players who have been through the game more than once, their game sense and battle experience will naturally help them reduce avoidable deaths, and they will be able to focus on other things, like coming to a higher level area with a low level. But for the new players, when choosing mechanically demanding classes or those with weak early-game damage, they may feel it difficult to come over some struggles - like managing boss mechanics while dodging attacks. For rookies, we recommend the easiest class for new players: Summoner Necromancer (the name of the class is Necromancer, and the developing way is Summoner).

Summoner_Necromancer_d2r

Necromancer

This classic build creates an unstoppable army through Raise Skeleton, Raise Skeletal Mage, Revive, and your choice of Golem. Your skeleton minions (literally) both deals damage and tanks hits while you cast curses from safety. Its a perfect class for new players who want to get into the game, or someone just want to focus on positioning and casting spells rather than complex micro-management.

This build ignores most enemy immunities. While monsters in endgame areas often resist physical/magic damage or specific element damage (fire/ice dual-immunes exist), your minions always find ways to push through - though some clears might be slower.

Pro tip: Always summon a large army of minions before progressing in higher grade zones.

Gearing for the Summoner Necromancer is straightforward: prioritize "+ x To All Skills" gear is enough for your early leveling. You can also collect any class-neutral items on your leveling ways for future playing.

For the skill build, heres a guide:

Summoner Necromancer Early Leveling

  • 1 point to Raise Skeleton
  • 1 point to Amplify Damage
  • 1 point to Skeleton Mastery
  • 3 points to Raise Skeleton
  • 1 point to Clay Golem
  • All points to Raise Skeleton until level 12
  • 1 point to Golem Mastery at level 12
  • All points to Raise Skeleton until level 24
  • 1 point to Summon Resist at level 24
  • All remaining points to Skeleton Mastery

Not interested in summoner? Heres an alternative option: The Blizzballer Sorceress (Fireball + Blizzard hybrid). This class offers strong area of effect (AoE) damage for fast clears. However, elemental immunities in endgame areas create frustrating roadblocks. Anyway, you can still choose it as a secondary character for future gaming.

Power Leveling

Power Leveling means boosting your character's level as fast and efficiently as possible. By knowing which locations give the most experience and the mechanics involved in gaining experience, you can level very quickly without cheating or exploiting bugs. These guidelines work for most classes and builds:

General Guidelines

  • The amount of experience depends on the players amount in the game - more players mean more experience, so you should always try to accomplish these steps in full games.
  • Try to get a higher level friend to help you clear areas, as their speed will make up for the level penalty.
  • If you re a melee fighter, try to get your weapons (and your mercenary's weapons, the mercs are NPCs that will help you during your adventure) enchanted by a Sorceress for instant DPS boost.
  • Gain access to areas by having higher level characters share waypoints. Some zones need quest completion first.
  • Don't put yourself at risk of death in Nightmare and Hell since the penalty on death is 5% and 10% respectively. This is particularly important for Hardcore players as well, for obvious reasons.
  • Hunt for Experience Shrines in different Acts (act 1 usually is the easiest) as you get 50% more experience while it is active, but be careful not to get too close to any monster that can curse you such as unique monsters with the "Cursed" status, Oblivion Knights, or Baal himself as curses override any active shrine bonus.

Power Leveling Stages

  • Level 1 - 15: Repeatedly clear Tristram.
  • Level 15 - 24: Clear Tal Rasha's Tombs in the Canyon of the Magi.
  • Level 24: Complete Rite of Passage.
  • Level 25 - 40: Repeatedly clear the Chaos Sanctuary and Baal.
  • Level 40: Complete Rite of Passage (nightmare difficulty).
  • Level 41-60: Repeatedly clear the Chaos Sanctuary and Baal (nightmare difficulty).
  • Level 60: Complete Rite of Passage (hell difficulty).
  • Level 61-95: Repeatedly kill Baal (hell difficulty).
  • Level 96-99: Advanced High leveling techniques (hell difficulty).
