The launch of the Vessel of Hatred DLC and Season 6 in Diablo 4 brings a major change to the game's difficulty system. This update allows for greater customization in difficulty, with players now able to choose between various difficulty levels as they progress toward the endgame.
In this article, we'll explore the new Difficulty system, how to unlock Torment 1 Difficulty, and the rewards that await players to take on this extreme challenge.
The New Difficulty System
In the latest update, Diablo 4 has removed the World Tiers and replaced them with a set of increasingly difficult levels. These new difficulty tiers are broken into two phases: one for the leveling process and pre-endgame content, and the second for the more hardcore endgame experience.
For the basic difficulties, they are generally divided into four levels during the leveling process.
Normal - This level is a suitable starting point for new players.
Hard - A more challenging option for players looking for a moderate challenge.
Expert - For players looking for a significant increase in difficulty.
Penitent - A higher difficulty that demands expert gameplay and strategic thinking.
As you progress toward the endgame, Diablo 4 introduces the Torment system, which represents the pinnacle of both difficulty and rewards. This system provides a substantial challenge for seasoned players, offering opportunities to earn the best loot and rewards in the game.
What Does Torment 1 Unlock?
The Torment system introduces a new level of difficulty for players seeking to test their skills to the fullest. Unlocking Torment 1 marks a significant shift in gameplay, offering both huge rewards and extreme challenges.
Once you've unlocked this difficulty, you'll earn increased experience and gold from enemies. As the difficulty increases, so do the rewards. Torment 1 offers a significant boost to the experience points and gold earned from enemies, helping you level up and upgrade your character more quickly.
Additionally, unlock the Torment 1, you will have access to get the Ancestral Gear. Torment 1 enemies have a chance to drop Ancestral gear, the highest quality gear in the game. These items are significantly more powerful than those found in lower difficulties, making Torment 1 the go-to difficulty for endgame farming.
There's no doubt that enemies will become tougher as you progress to Torment 1. Moreover, players face a critical downside in Torment 1. Your Armor Value will be reduced by 250, and all Resistances are lowered by 25%. This requires you to carefully optimize your character's build, gear, and strategy to mitigate the increased damage and lowered defense.
How to Unlock Torment 1 Difficulty
To unlock Torment 1, you'll need to complete a series of steps that take you through the main campaign and into the Vessel of Hatred DLC content.
To begin, you must finish the base Diablo 4 campaign. This will unlock Elite Difficulty, the third tier in the game's regular difficulty system.
After completing the base game, you need to complete the Vessel of Hatred DLC's main campaign. This will unlock Penitent Difficulty, the fourth and final difficulty tier in the pre-endgame content.
Pay attention, you must reach Level 60 and have a few Paragon points assigned to your character before you can move on to the next phase of unlocking Torment. Once you're Level 60, look for the "Pit of the Artificer" quest in your Quest Tab. This quest is essential for unlocking Torment 1 and will guide you to the next critical stage of progression.
Then, travel to Cerrigar in Scosglen, where you will find the Artificer's Obelisk located just to the top-left of the Waypoint. This obelisk acts as the entrance to the Pit of the Artificer, a challenging dungeon with randomly generated levels.
To unlock Torment 1, you must complete Tier 20 of the Pit of the Artificer dungeon. This requires you to defeat enemies and bosses within a 15-minute time limit. The dungeon is designed to test your skills and strategy, and if you can beat the final boss at this tier, you will unlock Torment 1.
Once you've completed the Pit at Tier 20 and defeated the boss, you will unlock Torment 1 for the rest of the game. This will allow you to start farming for the best gear and tackling the toughest challenges Diablo 4 has to offer.
Strategy Tips for Torment 1
Because of the significant penalty to your armor and resistances in Torment 1, it's crucial to adjust your character build to mitigate these losses. Focus on increasing your damage output, crowd control, and sustainability in combat to survive the tougher enemies.
Invest in gear that boosts your resistances, armor, and overall survivability. You will need high-quality equipment, and Torment 1 is where you'll find the best Ancestral gear drops. Be sure to use these rewards to further optimize your build.
Enemies in Torment 1 are not only stronger but also smarter. Understanding enemy behavior, attack patterns, and weaknesses will be crucial in surviving the tougher fights.
Torment 1 in Diablo 4 represents the pinnacle of the game's difficulty. By following the steps to unlock Torment 1 and preparing your character accordingly, you can take on the game's toughest challenges and earn some of the best gear available.
